I'm quitting and I'm not mad about it

We've been in the States for the past week, and it's been one heck of a whirlwind! Over the last week, we've visited with friends and family, and even made our annual pit stop at Coachella.

I have so many thoughts and even some epiphanies, one of which I want to share with you today.

Thank you for reading this week!

Btw, you can just quit

Today at 10:07 am, I was reminded that you can just quit.

After taking a break from YouTube while visiting with family, I sent this text to one of my close friends:

I could feel my heart flutter with excitement as I was finally embracing that my journey wanted to involve more music.

After I wrote my first book, You Deserve This Sh!t, I wanted to become a well-known, self-improvement thought leader. I figured, as a self-help author, that's the path I should walk.

This led me to believe I should start a YouTube and create educational content. I figured that's what "self-help gurus" do.

But I've started to feel disconnected from those labels. Being an author and a self-improvement guy is part of my story, not all of it. It's felt like I'm wearing clothes that no longer fit me like they used to.

Regardless, I've kept thinking that I should probably keep creating YouTube videos.

But after realizing I was doing YouTube because I thought I should, I've decided I'm quitting YouTube (at least for now).

This means you won't find a YouTube video at the end of this essay. I need to remove the "shoulds" that are distracting me from doing what matters most.

Right now, my biggest dream is to play Coachella, not build a massive YouTube channel. I need to reorient my life to make that come true. And if I don't, I know exactly how that story ends.

Regret.

If there are things you're doing that no longer serve you, you can just quit. Walk away, throw in the towel, hang up the cleats.

You have the freedom to choose what's truly pulling you. And that choice changes everything.

Book recommendation of the week

The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware

This is the book that got me thinking about life in a new way.

Bronnie Ware worked with the dying. Through her conversations, she started to understand the top five regrets of the dying. These regrets shifted the way I live my life forever.

I think the top regret will motivate you to change your approach, too.

Thank you for reading. I hope to see you again next week!
