What Does It Mean to Become the Best Version of Yourself?
Connecting your purpose, passion, and potential can help you become the best version of yourself. Your purpose, passion, and potential make up who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
The best version of yourself is the version of you that marries your purpose, passion, and potential in a genuine way that allows you to honor yourself. Living like this allows you to feel perfectly wired to achieve your dreams. This lifestyle will give you the energy, confidence, and motivation to chase exactly what you want. It will make you feel in control of your life and give you the opportunity to gain clarity on what you need to do to strive to be a bette version of you every day.
How to Become the Best Version of Yourself
Everyone’s self-discovery journeys are unique, which means there is not one surefire way to become the best version of yourself and find yourself. However, there are guiding principals and tips you can integrate into your life to give you the greatest opportunity at continuously becoming a better version of yourself.
Here are nine tips to help you become the best version of yourself.
1. Double Down on Your Awareness
In my book, You Deserve This Sh!t, I start by addressing your awareness. Why? Well, the first step in becoming your best self is cultivating awareness. It will help you understand your character, feelings, and what inspires you. That understanding will help bring your identity to the surface and allow you to discover more about who you are as a person, which is a prerequisite to being the best version of you.
Because your awareness is such an integral part of discovering yourself and your best version, I highly recommend doubling down on it. Start to learn how to cultivate awareness now so you can push further on your path.
2. Focus On Finding Your Purpose
The best version of yourself is the version that’s on the quest of finding their purpose or already lives life fully in their purpose. While you may feel like this is a difficult feat, I’m here to guide you. From personal experience, I understand how much your life can open up when you live in your purpose every day, and I want you to have the same understanding.
Follow these five steps to help you find your purpose:
- Become extremely curious and follow what interests you most in life. If you chase what excites you, you’ll start to find your purpose.
- Journal about the question, “What is my life’s purpose?” Create a bullet list of everything that relates to the reason you believe you’re alive.
- Focus on only filling your life with people and energy that supports the things you love most. Negative people in your inner circle can easily pull you away from following or finding your purpose.
- Explore your Ikigai (pronounced “eye-ka-guy”). Your Ikigai is a harmonious lifestyle that balances your passions and talents with the things the world needs and is willing to pay for.
- Once you understand your purpose, it’s time to take action: Fulfill your purpose when you get out of bed every morning.
3. Rewire Self-limiting Beliefs
How often do you hear a negative chatter in your head? It’s something just about everyone deals with. Over time, if you don’t shut it out, it will flood your life with self-limiting beliefs—negative perceptions you have about yourself that hold you back. Self-limiting beliefs are a roadblock you must overcome on your journey of becoming the best version of yourself.
To overcome your self-limiting beliefs, you must rewire them. This means replacing them with opposite and positive beliefs—or what I like to call empowering core beliefs. When I have a specific self-limiting belief that’s coming up, I will write down the opposite, positive belief and repeat it out loud every morning to help instill it in my mind.
So, for example, let’s say you had a self-limiting belief of not being able to be successful. Your empowering core belief, which again is the opposite, positive belief, would be, “I am successful.” Once you have the new empowering core belief, this is something you should write down and read every day until you’ve rewired that self-limiting belief
4. Be Willing to Adapt and Change
Change is scary, but that doesn’t mean you can’t overcome that fear. If you want to become the best version of yourself, you will be required to change and adapt; you will need to be okay with letting go of your past or current identity. If you aren’t willing to change, you will never be able to progress toward your north star—the best version of yourself.
Although it might be scary at first, your willingness to change will help you improve the quality of your life and allow you to step into your power as your best version.
5. Lead With Positivity
Not everything in life is a cake walk, and that’s okay. On your journey to be a better version of yourself, you’re going to face challenges and roadblocks that make you want to give up. Instead of giving up when this happens, focus on positivity when these struggles arise. Lead with positive emotions like passion, gratitude, and flexibility to help you navigate all edges of your quest. The positive emotions will help guide you through, and you’ll be thankful you chose to rise up.
6. Live Life Outside Your Comfort Zone
The quote goes, “Life begins outside your comfort zone,” and I couldn’t agree more. Not only does life begin outside your comfort zone, but so does your self-discovery. When you step outside your comfort zone, you put yourself in challenging situations that will help you improve as a person, guiding you toward the best version of yourself.
While it may feel nerve-racking in the beginning, once you become comfortable with being uncomfortable, you will begin to see the benefits this lifestyle brings. You’ll never want to retreat to your safe zone.
7. Live Intentionally
If you want to become the best version of yourself, it’s time to put purpose behind your purpose and actions. Living intentionally helps you align perfectly with your core values, beliefs, and goals. When you live like this, you’re able to make decisions that help push you toward becoming your best version.
Leading an intentional life will give you the permission to be selective with your choices and actions. Becoming selective will help you make sure every step you take supports your journey of becoming the best version of yourself.
8. Set Achievable & Reasonable Goals
You don’t always have to make headline-breaking news, and that goes for your self-development too. Sure, the glitz and glamour that comes with ground-shaking news may sound flattering, but it’s not what you need. Goals that reach those heights typically take years to achieve.
On your journey of becoming the best version of yourself, it’s crucial to focus on short-term goals—achievements that wouldn’t find themselves on the cover of Forbes. All you need to focus on is becoming 1% better every day. These small increments and consistent achievements will help you stay motivated on your journey of becoming your best version.
If you choose to set more challenging goals on your journey of self-discovery, like those that land headlines on the cover of Forbes, it’s likely you’ll come up short and lose your drive.
9. Stay Consistent & Patient
Consistency and patience are superpowers. If you’re ready to be the best version of you, you’ll need to embrace both. Doing a little work here and a little work over there expecting immediate results is a perfect recipe for failure. Be honest with yourself. Great things don’t happen over night. Although you may feel like it’s a long road, remember that through showing up every day, trusting your work, and being patient, you will achieve exactly what you want: becoming the best version of yourself.
Your journey of becoming your best version is an exciting time. You are getting ready to put the control of your life in your hands and step into your power. With the nine tips above, you’ll be able to get closer to the person you’ve always wanted to become. Let’s get this show on the road.
