An unexpected way to move into your new life
Change demands that you leave your old life behind before you're ready to fully embrace your new life, and most people aren't prepared for that season.
You arrive at a moment when you feel like your old life no longer fits you, but your new life feels out of reach. Yet, because your old life is all you know, you continue to live it, even though something new is knocking on your door.
I like to think of this like wearing different outfits.
When you're stuck in the middle of your old and new life, it's as if you're wearing an old outfit you don't like anymore while having your eye on something new. But because you've worn this outfit for years, it's become a habit to wear.
As you think about the new outfit, you can't bring yourself to try it on because you're not used to wearing clothes that look like that. It's outside your comfort zone, and you're worried about what others may think of you.
But you don't have to try on the new outfit all at once. You can put the socks on to start and get used to that first. Then you can put on the shirt, pants, and shoes. Actually, maybe start with the pants.
Moving from your old life to your new life is inevitably uncomfortable, even more so when you think you need to embrace all in one go.
But you can make it feel less like a fight by embracing your new life piece by piece, in ways that feel reasonable and doable.
Let's say you're exploring a new creative path like photography. You don't need to embrace every part of that identity at once. You can start with something small, like using your phone to snap photos of your morning coffee.
As those new things start to settle in, you can try on the next piece. These steps might feel small and insignificant now, but they stack up faster than you may think.
Soon enough, by embracing your new life one step at a time, you'll catch yourself in the mirror wearing an entirely new outfit without even noticing it happened.
Book recommendation of the week

You Deserve This Sh!tΒ by Jordan Tarver (aka yours truly)
Yes, I'm recommending my own book, and I'll tell you why.
I wrote this book after a three-month, soul-searching journey. It was a time when I felt deeply disconnected from myself and the life I was living. My old life didn't fit me anymore, and I was ready for something new.
This book includes the approach and exercises I used to get clear on the new life pulling me forward and move into that life. It's a short 200-page book that reads like you're having a conversation with a friend.
If you read it and it doesn't nudge you in a positive direction, I'll refund you 100% of your money.
Worth a shot. Enjoy!
